Welcome

We are glad that you have found us at Solihull United Reformed Church (URC).

We invite you to look around the website and discover our heart to reach the least, the last, and the lost. You would be most welcome to join us in this mission and in our worship.

We are  a single church which unified three fellowships in 2015 and we continue to seek to serve the three communities of Hobs Moat, Olton and Central Solihull. Our minister recently retired and so are led by the Eldership  team and a part-time Mission enabler.

From Sunday 6th December 2020 the Church has begun offering Sunday morning worship for those for whom it is appropriate to be going out and about in that way. The Church also has the facility to allow Church members to attend remotely and details of how to connect remotely are provided by the Church Secretary.

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic Solihull is classed as "Very High Alert" and has been placed in the Government's Tier 3 with effect from 2 December 2020. Although churches are allowed to open we ask that you should consider carefully whether it is appropriate for you to attend church or whether you should continue to be shielded at home and use the remote attendance facility. If you plan to attend church please note the following :
  • We are following URC and government guidance on opening for worship and doing what we can to mitigate the risk of catching or passing on Covid-19.  However we cannot guarantee that there is no risk.  Therefore those of more mature years or are having to shield for medical reasons should think very carefully about whether it is appropriate to attend.
  • Please do not attend if you are showing any symptoms of Covid-19.
  • If you have downloaded the NHS Covid-19 App to your smart phone then please scan the QR code on entry to the building otherwise please let the door steward have your contact details for "Track and Trace".
  • You must comply with the relevant Tier 3 guidance, which means that you cannot socialise indoors with anyone that you do not live with or is in your "support bubble". It also means that you cannot meet in groups of more than 6 outdoors and even then you need to follow the social distancing guidelines. This means it is not appropriate to socialise with your friends inside church or to congregate outside the church doors either before or after the service.
If you decide that it is the right time for you to return to worship at church you should be aware that the service will be shorter than usual and commence at 10:00 am. It will not contain any communal hymn singing nor will there be any refreshments afterwards. You will also notice some other changes. You are asked to wear a face mask unless you have an appropriate reason not to. At the doors there are hand sanitiser units for everyone to use as they enter. There are markings on the floor 2m apart helping people remain appropriately distanced.

From December communion services will be held each month. The elements for communion will be prepared in a Covid safe environment and will be distributed in as safe a manner as we can achieve. However if you would feel more comfortable bringing your own "bread" and "wine" (or biscuit and some juice) then that is understood and is wholly acceptable.

For Sunday services you are asked to place your offertory in the basket by the door as you enter. You will be directed to a seat at an appropriate distance from someone else. There are no cushions on the pews - if you need one you should bring one from home. There are no books so everything you need will be on the Notice sheet as well as certain items being on the screen if that is appropriate for you.

Our raised stage area at the front is sufficient distance from the congregation that whilst leading worship the worship leader will not have to wear a face mask which we hope will help with audibility, clarity, facial expression and lip reading. Once they leave the platform they too will put on a mask.

Disappointingly we ask you not to have conversation with others inside the church and there should be no physical contact between households such as handshakes or hugs. Smiley eyes and waving is acceptable and encouraged.

We would be greatly helped if you could indicate whether you are planning to attend in person worship services. Let us know either by email (solihullurc@gmail.com) or tell the person who is your pastoral contact when they phone you this week.

For those people who would like to continue to share in worship a number of United Reformed churches are either streaming their Sunday services or they are recorded for viewing or listening to at a later date.  A link to the churches that are offering this facility is https://urc.org.uk/latest-news/3385-coronavirus-worshipping-digitally.

In addition the BBC offer a number of religious broadcasts; most notable would be the television programme "Songs of Praise", also Radio 4 and a number of local radio stations also offer live streaming of religious services.

We hope that all of our congregation, members and friends remain safe during the coming weeks and offer the following prayer to you all:

Lord Jesus, In the midst of a storm, You said, ‘Peace be still.’ bid our anxious fears subside, sustain your church in faith, hope and love.
Bring our nation through this tumult. Grant wisdom to those with heavy responsibilities, and healing and hope to those who are infected.
Amen.
